Congresswoman Duckworth Votes for Bipartisan Flood Insurance Reform

Yesterday, Congresswoman Tammy Duckworth voted for H.R. 3370, the Homeowner Flood Insurance Accountability Act, which passed the House of Representatives. The bipartisan legislation helps protect homeowners from increasing flood insurance premiums, allows "grandfathered" flood insurance rates to remain in place for certain residences, and calls for refunds to individuals who have paid excess premium charges. In addition, the legislation instructs FEMA to minimize the amount of polices with annual premiums and work directly with communities on flood insurance mapping models.

"I cosponsored and voted in favor of this legislation because of the protection it offers my constituents," said Duckworth. "Last year, the 8th District experienced severe flooding that resulted in major property damage. With the significant snowfall that took place this winter it is crucial that we prepare for spring flooding and that my neighbors have access to affordable flood insurance. This legislation helps ensure that my constituents aren't overcharged for flood insurance and subject to higher rate increases because of remapping."
