Congressman Hoyer is committed to reducing the deficit, and has urged both parties to work together on a balanced approach that asks all Americans to contribute their fair share and prevents arbitrary automatic spending cuts from occurring through a balanced mix of spending cuts and revenues.

Unfortunately, Republicans have voted multiple times for a budget that ends the Medicare guarantee and harms job creation, while giving tax cuts to the wealthy. The Republican budget is not balanced, and Congressman Hoyer believes it makes the wrong choices by placing the burden of deficit reduction onto seniors, the middle class, and the most vulnerable by refusing to ask the wealthiest among us to contribute. He continues to push for a big, bold, and balanced plan to create jobs, reduce the deficit, strengthen our entitlements while protecting the most vulnerable and preserving the Medicare guarantee, and ensure all Americans pay their fair share.
