Restoring fiscal responsibility is one of Congressman Hoyer's top priorities, and he is focused on addressing our nation's fiscal challenges in a responsible way. For over a year, he has been calling on Congress to replace the across-the-board, untargeted spending cuts known as sequestration because he believes the process of cutting our highest and lowest priorities equally is the wrong approach to deficit reduction.

For months, he has been meeting with Fifth District businesses and residents to discuss the negative impact of sequestration, including civilian defense employee furloughs that threaten military readiness and our local economy. Congressman Hoyer understands our community cannot afford this reckless policy, and is advocating for a balanced approach to deficit reduction that includes targeted spending cuts and additional revenues, which is the approach recommended by every bipartisan commission that has looked at this issue.

Congressman Hoyer continues to urge his colleagues to enact a bipartisan solution as soon as possible to replace the sequester, provide certainty to Fifth District businesses and families, and put our nation on a sound fiscal path.
