Beatty to Attend Presidential Policy Announcements at White House

Congresswoman Joyce Beatty (OH-03) will be present at the White House this week for the announcement of funding initiative that will establish manufacturing innovations centers and for the "My Brother's Keeper" initiative aimed at building opportunities for boys and young men of color.

Congresswoman Beatty will join EWI and The Ohio State University at the White House today for President Obama's announcement of a contract award to Columbus based EWI as part of the President's initiative to establish manufacturing innovation centers. According to OSU, the contract will help retain manufacturing jobs in the Midwest and create up to 10,000 jobs. The award is for $70 million dollars and will be a partnership between EWI, The Ohio State University, and the University of Michigan.

"The infusion of federal funds announced by the President along with the ingenuity and enthusiasm brought to project from two great public higher education institution will undoubtedly by successful. The Midwest has thrived on its manufacturing base for decades and investments in innovation are the key to spurring the economy in this sector for years to come."

On Thursday, Congresswoman Beatty will return to the White House for a policy briefing with President Obama and small business owner Al Edmondson. The duo will be briefed on the President's policy initiative on creating opportunities for boys and young men of color. Al Edmondson, owner of A Cut Above the Rest Barber Shop and president of the Mt. Vernon Avenue Business Association, was invited to the White House for his leadership with young men of color organizing a number of events and causes throughout the city of Columbus and Mt. Vernon Ave. area to positively affect young minority men.
