U.S. Senator Kelly Ayotte (R-NH), a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, released this statement following President Obama's remarks regarding reports of Russian military activity in Ukraine:
"I am deeply troubled by reports that Russian military forces may be violating the sovereignty of Ukraine. If true, I condemn this blatant aggression and disregard for Ukraine's independence and territorial integrity.
"The U.S.-working with our allies-must make clear that Russia can serve as a constructive partner in the effort to establish a unity government in Ukraine that restores stability and democracy.
"But if President Putin seeks to coerce the people of Ukraine through military force, he must know that the U.S. will lead an international effort to impose serious consequences."
