Issue Position

Every South Dakota family must live within a budget and the federal government should do the same. Our tax dollars should be spent wisely on matters that are important to South Dakota and reflect our values. Instead, Congress and the president have embarked on a wasteful spending spree with the national debt approaching $17 trillion. Despite the alarming size of our current deficit, the budget proposed by President Obama for Fiscal Year 2013 would have continued the path of spending at a rate that would raise the national debt to $25.9 trillion by 2021. Congress must work to reduce this out-of-control spending and prevent leaving our children and grandchildren with burdensome debt.
