Congresswoman Katherine Clark has signed a discharge petition with the intent to bring the Minimum Wage Fairness Act to the floor of the House of Representatives. Clark joined Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and other House Democrats in a press conference Wednesday to push for immediate action on the long-stalled effort to bring the national minimum wage standard to $10.10.

"It's way past time for Congress to bring millions of Americans out of poverty by adjusting our minimum wage standards," said Clark. "It's not only the right thing to do, it benefits our whole economy. Massachusetts families deserve an economy that works for everyone."

The Fair Minimum Wage Act of 2014 raises the federal minimum wage to $10.10 per hour by 2015; adjusts the minimum wage to keep pace with the rising cost of living; and raises the minimum wage for tipped workers.

A letter from more than 600 economists, including seven Nobel Prize winners, stated "at a time when persistent high unemployment is putting enormous downward pressure on wages, such a minimum-wage increase would provide a much-needed boost to the earnings of low-wage workers."
