Issue Position: National Defense and Foreign Affairs

Issue Position

Protecting our nation is the most important responsibility of the federal government. Maintaining a strong military is essential to our national defense, and I am committed to that mission. America's leadership is essential to maintaining peace and security throughout the globe. While we cannot be the world's police, we must continue to protect U.S. security interests abroad and stand for human rights in every corner of the world. Congress plays an important role in forming our foreign policy and recently too much of our foreign policy decisions have been ceded to the Executive Branch. I believe Congress must reassert its proper responsibilities in the conduct of foreign policy.

Additionally, Malmstrom Air Force Base and the Montana National Guard play an integral role defending our nation. I am working hard to protect Montana's contribution to our national defense, and I understand the importance of the military to our communities.
