Issue Position

If we're going to have long-term economic growth and job creation, we must ensure that our workforce has the skills they need to participate in modern manufacturing, agriculture, and services while reducing uncertainty for employers so that they can hire again. The government does not exist to "create jobs." Time and again, the United States economy has demonstrated that it is the greatest engine of innovation and prosperity that has ever existed. It is past time that the federal government stands aside and lets the American spirit of hard work and entrepreneurship flourish.

My goal in Congress is to restore the federal government's traditional role of supporting and overseeing the private sector, rather than picking economic winners and losers. In this effort, I have focused on initiatives to benefit the signature industries of the Sixth District: horses, automobiles, coal, bourbon, tobacco, tourism, healthcare, and education, among others.

I am pleased to serve on a number of congressional caucuses dedicated to job creation and advancing issues of concern to these and other key industries, including the Congressional Horse Caucus where I serve as Chairman, the Congressional Bourbon Caucus, the Congressional Coal Caucus, the House Manufacturing Caucus, the Congressional Automotive Caucus, the Congressional Sportsmen's Caucus, and the Congressional Veterans Job Caucus.
