Van Hollen: President Obama's Budget Will Address the Key Concerns of the American People

Statement

Today Maryland Congressman Chris Van Hollen, Ranking Member of the House Budget Committee, issued the following statement on the White House's preview of the President's fiscal year 2015 budget:

"President Obama's budget will address the key concerns of the American people -- boosting job growth, making critical investments in our future, and responsibly reducing our deficit. His Opportunity, Growth, and Security Initiative -- which will be fully paid for -- will help put people back to work and grow the middle class, ensuring that every family has a chance at the American Dream. I also support the President's decision to eliminate the chained CPI proposal from his budget. Last year President Obama had included that proposal, together with plans to close special interest tax breaks, as part of a larger package to reduce the deficit. However, it turned out Republicans were unwilling to close one single tax loophole to reduce the deficit, revealing that their only interest was slashing important investments, not addressing our long-term deficit issues.

"The recent budget deal has restored some stability to our budget process, but the status quo is not good enough. We must do everything we can to grow our economy and give our children and future generations the opportunity to succeed."
