Today Congressman Kevin Cramer released the following statement after the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) revised its permitting guidance for the use of diesel fuel in hydraulic fracturing:
"EPA's guidance announcement today on the use of diesel fuel in hydraulic fracturing undermines the work of effective state regulators. States work with the industry and stakeholders to ensure well construction standards prevent any chemicals, diesel or otherwise, from negatively impacting our precious water resources. We live there and have an inherent reason to protect it, unlike federal officials in D.C. or Denver."
The permitting guidance applies to the EPA's underground injection control (UIC) program, which requires a special permit to be obtained when diesel fuel is used as a fracturing fluid.
