Womack Applauds E-Fairness Hearing Announcement

Press Release

Date: Feb. 11, 2014
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Taxes

On May 6, 2013, the Senate passed the Marketplace Fairness Act (S. 743/H.R. 684). The bill gives states the ability to require out-of-state sellers to collect sales and use taxes -- rather than relying on consumers to remit those due taxes -- if states simplify their sales and use tax systems. The bill was referred to the House Judiciary Committee and awaits action in the House.

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte (VA-6) today announced a non-legislative e-fairness hearing scheduled for March 4, 2014. Congressman Steve Womack (AR-3), the original sponsor of H.R. 684, released the below statement:

"Congress -- and only Congress -- can close the unfair tax loophole that is forcing more and more Main Street businesses to close up shop. I applaud Chairman Goodlatte's announcement of an e-fairness hearing -- which will allow many myths to be debunked -- and thank the Chairman for his commitment to finding a solution to this problem before it's too late."
