Today, Representative Tim Walz applauded an extension of the "hours of service" waiver that will help alleviate the propane shortage by allowing truckers to quickly increase the available supply of propane in Minnesota. Yesterday, Representative Walz spoke with Administrator Ferro of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) personally and urged her to take action to extend this waiver. Representative Walz released the following statement:

"I spoke personally with Administrator Ferro yesterday and urged her to extend this wavier to help alleviate the propane shortage. I'm pleased that our call was heard and this waiver, that will allow truckers to quickly and safely increase the supply of propane in southern Minnesota, was granted.

"While this is an important step to help alleviate the problem in the short term, more needs to be done. I will continue advocating for both short and long term measures to give southern Minnesotans peace of mind and prevent future shortages from occurring."

In addition to extending the "hours of service" waiver to help increase the supply of propane, Walz is also looking into the idea of creating a strategic propane reserve to prevent propane shortages from occurring in the future.
