Walz Calls Administrator Ferro, Urges Extension of "Hours of Service" Waiver to Increase Propane Supply

After discussing the propane shortage crisis at the home of Matt and Holly Hoffer, residents of West Concord who have seen their propane bill nearly quadruple in the last month, today Representative Tim Walz spoke with Administrator Ferro of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) and urged her to take action to extend the "hours of service" waiver. This waiver would help alleviate the propane shortage by allowing truckers to quickly increase the available supply of propane. Administrator Ferro stated that a decision would be coming soon. Representative Walz released the following statement:

"It is imperative that we're doing all we can to fix this problem and give peace of mind to hardworking, middle class families. After meeting with the Hoffer family yesterday, I called Administrator Ferro this morning and relayed their concerns to her. I also urged her to take immediate action to extend the hours of service waiver to help alleviate this problem.

"During the coldest months of the year, folks shouldn't have to choose between heating their homes and putting food on the table. I'm thankful for Administrator Ferro's work on this issue and hopeful she will make the right decision to extend this waiver."

In addition to extending the "hours of service" waiver to help increase the supply of propane, Walz is also looking into the idea of creating a strategic propane reserve to prevent future shortages.
