Rep. Capito: Appeal FEMA Decision

Statement

Date: Feb. 12, 2014
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Environment

WASHINGTON -- U.S. Representative Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) issued the following statement today on the Federal Emergency Management Agency's denial of West Virginia's request for Category B emergency protective measures following the Kanawha Valley chemical spill:

"I am appalled that FEMA feels that an emergency that leaves 300,000 people without access to clean water is not severe enough to warrant additional federal assistance. Residents and businesses in nine West Virginia counties are still struggling to recover and still question whether the water coming out of their faucets is safe to drink. I will continue to work with West Virginia's congressional delegation to urge FEMA to give West Virginians the full assistance they need and deserve."
