WASHINGTON, DC -- U.S. Congressman Pete Sessions (R-TX-32), Chairman of the House Rules Committee and a Member of House Republican Leadership, today released the following statement regarding the House's vote to increase the debt limit:

"One of my top priorities in Congress is to fight Washington's out-of-control spending and pay down our $17 trillion debt. That is why I voted against a bill to raise our nation's debt ceiling without any spending cuts and reforms. Increasing the debt limit without meaningful and responsible reductions in government spending is bad for our economy, bad for businesses, and bad for North Texas families. I will continue to fight to reduce the size of our bloated government, cut our nation's unsustainable levels of spending, and remove the burden of debt from future generations."
