Cassidy Comments on Congressional Budget Office Director's Testimony on Obamacare's Impact on Economy

Today, Congressman Bill Cassidy, M.D. expressed concerns about the impact of the President's health care on our economy, following testimony by Congressional Budget Office Director Douglas Elmendorf before the House Budget Committee this morning.

Mr. Elmendorf told the committee that "the act created a disincentive for people to work relative to what would have been the case in absence of the act." According to Politico, "Elmendorf also said the law's projected effects on job loss will principally affect low-wage workers."

Additionally, Americans for Tax Reform reported today that based on data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the health care law could cost Louisiana up to 35,701 jobs. Dr. Cassidy released the following statement:

"The testimony from Mr. Elmendorf today is a cause for concern for over 35,000 Louisiana families who may lose their jobs because of Obamacare. Elmendorf also stated that the President's health care law may create a disincentive for people to work and will affect low income Louisianans disproportionately. Health reform should create jobs, and we learned today that Obamacare destroys them."
