Lankford Opposes Irresponsible "Clean' Debt Ceiling Increase

Washington, DC--Representative James Lankford (R-OK) today opposed legislation that would raise the debt ceiling with no long-term changes to get us out of debt and/or prevent future debt ceiling increases.

"I cannot support allowing us to increase our national debt ceiling without significant long-term fiscal reforms or a plan to prevent future debt ceiling debates," said Lankford.

"The best way to put our country on a path to balance is to tackle our deficit spending in the short term while we also put a plan in place to tackle the potentially disastrous long-term debt crisis we face as a nation. Democrats seem united in the crusade to add debt to our existing $17 trillion with absolutely no plan to get us out of it.

"We must stop pretending our national debt is not a major issue even though it already exceeds a completely incomprehensible amount. On behalf of my daughters and future generations, I will not support taking the easy road today but make it harder in the future," concluded Lankford.
