Statement

Dear Neighbors,

This week, I met with representatives of Roosevelt University in Washington. Roosevelt has a campus in Schaumburg, and we talked about how important Pell Grants are to their student body as well as the need for student Veterans resources.

On Wednesday, I wore red in support of the American Heart Association's Heart Health initiative. I was happy to raise awareness with my colleagues on the House Women's Caucus on such an important issue.

I also recorded a video message to discuss the importance of equal pay for equal work. Today in the United States women make only $.77 on the dollar that a man makes. In my home state of Illinois, women earn nearly $12,000 a year less than their male counterparts.
I know that my neighbors believe that our daughters deserve better. Pay discrimination doesn't just hurt women -- it hurts working families in towns across the 8th District.

On Friday, I met with various organizations across the District, including Parkreation. This organization, based in Mount Prospect, helps build parks and playgrounds for children of all abilities.

I also met with members of the Kane County Farm Bureau to discuss food affordability and other pressing policy matters, including the recently passed farm bill. It is great to be home in Illinois.

Lastly, I was happy to stand with state and local officials to applaud the $68 million project to reduce congestion and increase access at the Barrington Road Interchange on the Jane Addams Memorial Tollway (I-90). The project will reconfigure the busy interchange to provide full access to and from I-90, and accommodate a future Pace bus route along the Tollway.
