Labrador Votes for No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act

Press Release

Location: Washington, DC

Rep. Raúl Labrador (R-ID) voted for H.R. 7, the No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act today. This bill restores the national consensus, established by the Hyde Amendment of 1976 and overturned by the Affordable Care Act (ACA) of 2010, that taxpayers should not have to pay for abortions. Under the ACA, taxpayers are spending billions of dollars for abortion-subsidizing health care plans throughout the country. H.R. 7 makes the Hyde Amendment permanent and removes funding for ACA insurance plans that include abortion.

Rep. Labrador released the following statement:

"During the debate over Obamacare, President Obama promised that "under our plan, no federal dollars will be used to fund abortions.' But just like the President's promise that "if you like your health care plan, you can keep it,' the reality is the opposite. By allowing taxpayer funding for abortion, President Obama overturned a bipartisan, multigenerational consensus -- shared by pro-life and pro-choice Americans -- that taxpayer dollars should not be used to pay for abortions. Today's bill restores that consensus. It will save lives, promote a culture of life, and restore the freedom of conscience for millions of Americans."
