Aderholt Announces Millions of Dollars in Funding for Key Alabama Road Projects

WASHINGTON, March 10, 2005 - Congressman Robert Aderholt (R-Haleyville) today announced that the U.S. House of Representatvies has passed legislation that includes more than $14 million in critical funding for several important central Alabama transportation projects. The money is included in the six-year transportation reauthorization bill known as TEA-LU.

Among the projects funded through the efforts of Congressman Aderholt and Congressman Bud Cramer (D-Huntsville) are $7 million for the extension of Interstate 565 to Decatur and $1.3 million for the widening and extension of Alabama Highway 36 in Hartselle.

"All of the projects funded through this bill will offer improvements that truly encourage job creation in our area," said Congressman Aderholt. "I was pleased to have the opportunity to work with Congressman Cramer on these projects and look forward to future opportunities to improve our areas."

Additional funding through the bill includes:

· $3 Million for a US Highway 278 expansion to four lanes from I-65 to US 231;
· $3 Million for a new I-59 interchange with 49th Street in Ft. Payne;
· $1.7 Million for construction of additional lanes on SR 77 from Southside to Green Valley Road;
· $1 Million for a new I-65 interchange with Cullman CR 222;
· $1 Million for a US Highway 278 expansion to four lanes from Sulligent to Guin;
· and $1 Million for the design and construction of a four lane highway from Muscle Shoals to Interstate 10.
