Joyce Statement on US Army Corps of Engineers' Great Lakes Invasive Species Report

Today, U.S. Congressman Dave Joyce (OH-14) released the following statement reacting to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' Great Lakes and Mississippi River Interbasin Study (GLMRIS):

"The Great Lakes are directly connected to 1.5 million jobs, generating $62 billion in wages annually, so it's critical that we're protecting them not only for their environmental integrity, but also their economic might. To preserve the Great Lakes, we must move as quickly as possible to take action that will prevent the spread of invasive species. It's imperative that the Army Corps of Engineers moves more quickly to stop the spread of Asian Carp, which will destroy the Great Lakes ecosystem. I promise to work with my colleagues across the Great Lakes region to ensure ACE works as quickly as possible."

A link to the GLMRIS report can be found here. Last year, Joyce introduced the bipartisan Great Lakes Ecological and Economic Protect Act of 2013 which would authorize comprehensive programs to protect the Great Lakes and boost economic growth in the Great Lakes region.
