Bureau of Reclamation Responds to Valadao Request

On Thursday, U.S. Bureau of Reclamation (USBR) Commissioner Michael Connor upheld the position of Congressman David G. Valadao (CA-21) and other Central Valley Lawmakers regarding rescheduled water deliveries for Central Valley Project water contractors.

Congressman Valadao said, "Commissioner Connor called me directly this afternoon to inform me that the Bureau has decided to make 100% of the rescheduled water available to CVP farmers and contractors under the same conditions laid out in the Bureau's December guidelines." He continued, "The Bureaus decision to honor their original promises will help ensure the farmers and contractors who invested in drought reserve water supplies will have the certainty they need to plan for the coming year. I am proud elected officials on both sides of the aisle were able to work together to resolve this issue for our constituents."

The Commissioner's announcement came after a letter to the Bureau from Congressman Valadao joined with other Valley lawmakers to urge the Administration to reconsider halting rescheduled water deliveries to San Joaquin Valley farmers. The letter stated strong opposition to the use of rescheduled water to meet other Central Valley Project (CVP) water delivery needs at the expense of farmers and contractors in the Valley.
