Hudson Votes To Reduce Discretionary Spending to Pre-Obama Levels

WASHINGTON-Today, U.S. Representative Richard Hudson (NC-08) issued the following statement after voting in support of the omnibus appropriations package to provide discretionary funding for the entire federal government for the fiscal year.

"When I ran for Congress, I repeatedly said that the first step we must take to reduce spending and scale back our bloated bureaucracy is to cut discretionary spending to pre-Obama levels. We accomplished that goal today, but we still have more work to do. The package that I supported today eliminates waste, protects our defense community by replacing sequestration's indiscriminate across-the-board cuts, and begins to provide the economic certainty and security that hardworking families and small businesses need to succeed."

"This bill, however, is far from perfect--although we were able to reverse one of the most egregious problems with the military retiree's COLA issue by eliminating the cuts to medically retired veterans, we owe a fix to all of those who have been impacted by this policy. I will continue to work to fix this problem and will press for more spending cuts to save taxpayers' hard-earned money."
