Dear Colleague,
As members who supported the Ryan/Murray Bipartisan Budget Act of 2013, we are committed to eliminating the cuts to the cost-of-living adjustments (COLAs) for military retirees and urge swift action to do so.
While passing this bipartisan budget provides much needed certainty to families and businesses over the next two fiscal years and will reduce the overall deficit, no agreement is perfect. This agreement places a substantial burden on military retirees and their families. Without a fix, cuts contained in H.J.Res.59 would impact many of our nation's most disabled veterans, who were medically retired due to disability incurred during service.
We are proud to join Members of both parties who have cosponsored legislation like H.R.3789 and H.R.3790 introduced by House Committee on Veterans' Affairs Chairman Jeff Miller to eliminate the COLA reductions. We urge you to support including such a fix in the omnibus. Swift action would sustain promised benefits to the courageous men and women who serve our great nation.
Sincerely,
Patrick E. Murphy
