U.S. Congressman Sean Duffy (WI-07) today announced the approval of over $6.4 million in local, state and federal funding to improve and expand operations at Sawyer County Airport in Hayward. This funding includes a $4,561,868 grant from the Federal Aviation Administration that Rep. Duffy's office helped secure.

This project will include the addition of state-of-the-art navigational equipment as well as a full-length parallel taxiway to the primary runway. Rep. Duffy offered the following comments:

"I am excited about these upgrades for Sawyer County. These modernizations will provide greater opportunities for businesses in Hayward and nearby communities. Additionally, it will ensure critical air transport services at Hayward Memorial Hospital -- even in the worst of weather. This is a great partnership between all levels of government. I am glad the local, state and federal levels could each do our part to make this a reality."

Sawyer County Clerk, Kris Mayberry added, "Sawyer County is grateful to Congressman Sean Duffy and his staff for their assistance in securing funding for the Sawyer County Airport improvement project. The improvements to the Airport will provide residents and visitors alike with a safer, more accessible airport, including for medical patient evacuations. The updated airport is important in keeping Sawyer County's infrastructure competitive for purposes of economic development and job retention and creation."
