U.S. Rep. Gary Peters Disappointed in Symbolic Political Vote to Limit Access to Women's Health Care

Statement

U.S. Representative Gary Peters (MI-14) today expressed his disappointment that Congress is wasting time on symbolic political votes when the focus should be on strengthening our middle class and improving our economy. Peters joined 188 Members to oppose H.R. 7, an unnecessary and duplicative bill because federal law already prohibits funding for abortions.

Peters said: "Congress should be focused on finding common sense solutions to the issues facing middle class families, investing in small businesses and responsibly cutting wasteful spending. Instead, today House Republicans wasted time on a symbolic political gesture to try and limit access to women's health care. It is disappointing that Congress would ignore pressing issues like extending unemployment insurance for families who are struggling in favor of scoring political points."

Rep. Peters is a member of the U.S. House of Representatives Pro-Choice Caucus.
