Rep. Schneider Releases Statement on Implementation of Iran Nuclear Deal

Statement

U.S. Congressman Brad Schneider (IL-10) released the following statement on the announced implementation of the P5+1's Joint Plan of Action with Iran:

"I am pleased to learn progress has been made in the implementation of the Joint Plan of Action announced in November; however, it is important to fully understand the timelines, milestones and specific promised deliverables agreed to before assessing the merits of the deal.

"The U.S. must continue to hold Iran responsible for its actions and should articulate clearly that sanctions relief will not come without transparent and verifiable concessions that dismantle the infrastructure of Iran's nuclear program and eliminate its current stockpiles of nuclear material. My position remains that the ultimate goal of our engagement with Iran must be to end Iran's nuclear ambitions and permanently degrade and block any and all pathways for Iran to acquire a nuclear weapon.

"This initial deal cannot become the final deal. Rather, it should be a stepping stone toward a larger agreement with Iran. The U.S. and our P5+1 allies must aggressively seek and achieve a permanent end to Iran's nuclear programs and prevent further proliferation in the region."
