Rep. Schneider Helps Advance Bipartisan Budget Plan

Press Release

Date: Jan. 15, 2014

U.S. Congressman Brad Schneider (IL-10) voted in favor of the Fiscal Year 2014 Consolidated Appropriations Act, a bipartisan measure that will fund the government for the rest of the fiscal year. It includes funding for a number of programs that Congressman Schneider has advocated for, including the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative, invasive species protections and important job training programs.

"For too long, Congress's failure to come together and agree on a budget hampered our economic growth and caused unnecessary uncertainty," Schneider said. "This bipartisan bill is an example of how Washington should work. It provides critical funding for important projects, including those that protect the Great Lakes and provide job training for the unemployed. No one got everything they wanted, but both sides found common ground in order to provide certainty to our businesses and communities."

The Fiscal Year 2014 Consolidated Appropriations Act, often referred to as an omnibus appropriations measure, will provide $1.012 trillion to fund the government for the remainder of the fiscal year.

It provides $300 million for the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative, $3.5 million to stop the spread of Asian carp and $2.6 million for job training. The measure also fully funds the Federal Aviation Administration's contract tower program to ensure that contract towers, such as the one at the Waukegan Regional Airport, do not face the threat of closure again.
