McCollum Statement Regarding President Bush's Inaugural Address
Thursday, January 20, 2005
"The American people are looking to President Bush to unite our nation, not just with inaugural words, but with policies that reflect our nation's highest standards. The president's talk of conquering oppression and spreading freedom around the world is a shared responsibility of all free nations. Let our nation lead the struggle for human freedom - freedom from hunger, poverty and disease that enslaves billions of human beings.
The living legacy of the past four years is the crisis in Iraq, the fiscal crisis here at home and the deep divisions among our people. We need a new direction for our nation that put the needs of the American people first and strives for a more peaceful world."
