Issue Position

I strongly believe that as a nation, we have an obligation to care for the individuals who have risked their lives and made painful sacrifices for our families and our freedoms. We will not find solutions to our fiscal challenges by chipping away at the benefits promised to these brave men and women.

I will fight to ensure that all veterans receive the support and benefits that they deserve and have earned. In addition to providing veterans with affordable, high-quality health care, I believe we need to promote greater access to educational opportunities and job-training programs for those seeking to re-enter the workforce--particularly in the aftermath of Iraq and Afghanistan. Also among my top priorities are reducing the significant claims backlog at the Department of Veterans Affairs, and ensuring that veterans have access to affordable housing when transitioning into civilian life.
