Issue Position: National Security

Issue Position

The safety of Americans from terrorism and other threats must be our number one national security priority. Our nation needs effective responses to emerging danger, and as a member of Congress, I am working hard to ensure that our nation remains vigilant against all threats, including those emanating from cyberspace. I am actively working to support federal grants for law enforcement agencies to make policing activities safer and more efficient. Additionally, I am committed to securing funding to improve communication and information sharing between intelligence and law enforcement agencies at local, state, and federal levels.

As we combat the current threats facing our nation, Congress must also work to balance our nation's security needs with the need to protect the individual civil liberties that are a foundation of our country.

While a strong military is essential, I believe our efforts to support our nation's security must also address the issues of global health, dependence on foreign oil, poverty, and nuclear proliferation.
