Latta Cosponsors Bill to Provide Greater NSA Oversight

Congressman Bob Latta (R-Bowling Green) became a cosponsor of H.R. 3436, a bill to ensure greater oversight and accountability within the National Security Agency (NSA).

The bill requires the Director of the NSA and the Inspector General of the NSA be appointed by the President and confirmed by the United States Senate. Currently, the NSA Director is appointed by the Secretary of Defense and approved by the President, and the IG is appointed by the NSA Director.

"It is imperative that the NSA continues to have the ability to protect innocent American's; however, I believe Congress and the Administration must continue to have an open discussion on necessary reforms that bring greater oversight and accountability to the NSA' s intelligence programs and restores the trust of the American people. I believe this bill is an important step in the right direction," said Congressman Latta.
