Ayotte Votes to Begin Debate on Legislation to Extend Unemployment Benefits

U.S. Senator Kelly Ayotte (R-NH) released the following statement today after voting to begin debate on legislation to extend temporary long-term unemployment benefits. The proposal the Senate is considering would extend for three months temporary long-term unemployment benefits, but Ayotte has expressed concerns that the proposal is not paid for and would add $6.4 billion to the national debt over the next 10 years.

"I sympathize with Granite Staters who are struggling to find work and I want to see them get back on the job. While I voted to begin debate on this legislation, I continue to believe that any temporary extension should be paid for in a responsible manner, and I hope both parties will work together to find a solution."
