Sebelius Unable to Provide Cost Estimate for Obamacare's Risk Corridors

Press Release

Date: Dec. 11, 2013
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Gus M. Bilirakis (R-FL), member of the Energy and Commerce Committee's Health Subcommittee, today questioned Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius regarding the failures of Obamacare and the risk corridors program created under the law. When asked about the risk corridors, Secretary Sebelius could not provide an estimate for the cost U.S. taxpayers would incur.

"The tab for Obamacare's risk corridors will ultimately be passed down to U.S. taxpayers," Bilirakis said. "It is unacceptable for the Administration to promulgate a rule without knowing the cost that will result. Furthermore, it's irresponsible to put taxpayers on the hook for insurance company losses in the Exchange."
