Location: Louisville, KY

U.S. Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell issued the following statement commemorating the January 15 birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.:

"Today, we honor one of our nation's heroes. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. had an unswerving commitment to the equality of all Americans and a firm dedication to seeing America live up to her highest ideals of liberty. More than 50 years after his most famous speech, we know many challenges remain. But we also know that there is nothing we cannot overcome if we're willing to work together to deliver equal opportunity for all, to confront those who would divide us by race, and to rededicate ourselves to living in the truth that we are all God's children. In so doing, we can realize Dr. King's hope that "in some not too distant tomorrow the radiant stars of love and brotherhood will shine over our great nation with all their scintillating beauty.'"
