Funding Released for Regional Transportation Facility in Hazard

WASHINGTON, DC -- U.S. Representative Hal Rogers (KY-5) announced today that $1.9 million in federal funding is being released to construct a new regional transportation facility in Hazard. Rogers included the funding in the 2004 budget for the Federal Transit Administration.

"This transportation facility will help meet the growing travel demands in Perry County and surrounding areas and will also help improve access to important health and human services," said Rogers. "A good transportation infrastructure is critical to boosting economic development and keeping our people and region moving forward. I'm glad that funding for this much-needed transportation facility is now on the way home."

The transportation facility in Hazard will also serve residents in Leslie, Knott, Perry, and Letcher Counties. The facility will serve as a valuable transfer station for local travelers while also serving as a point of connection to other regional and state attractions. Hazard has a number of important medical centers, child care facilities, community outreach facilities, and businesses that will now be more easily accessed by transit riders. Passengers will also be able to access medical transportation to a variety of locations from this facility including hospitals and high-tech treatment centers in Pikeville, Lexington, and Louisville.

Rogers works to provide funding for Kentucky transportation funding in his role as a senior member of the House Appropriations Committee.
