Durbin: Omnibus Appropriations Bill Funds Innovation & Research at Argonne National Lab and Fermilab

U.S. Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) today announced the Omnibus Appropriations bill for Fiscal Year 2014, which was filed in the House and Senate yesterday, preserves essential federal funding for scientific research and development programs that support work at both Argonne National Laboratory and Fermilab. Together, Argonne and Fermilab employ roughly 4,725 Illinoisans. The bill, which reflects a budget agreement between the House and Senate, must now be voted on by both chambers of Congress and signed into law by President Obama.

"Today's bill isn't just an investment in scientific research, it is an investment in the future of our economy, and in the competitive edge that America needs to succeed in the 21st century," Durbin said. "With Fermi and Argonne leading the way, this funding will protect America's position at the forefront of scientific and technological innovation."
