Location: Washington, DC

Representative Jared Polis (CO-02) today congratulated Colorado Businessman Avram Saunders on his appointment to the Department of Commerce's Manufacturing Council. Saunders is the founder of Lightning Eliminators and a vital contributor to Colorado's strong corps of technology-minded, successful small to medium sized businesses.

"I want to offer my wholehearted congratulations to Avram on his appointment to this prestigious and critically important council," said Representative Polis. "The leadership that he has demonstrated in Colorado will make him a strong asset as the Council tackles the tough issues that face the American industrial and manufacturing sectors."

Lightning Eliminators earned the President's "E" award for exporters earlier this year, and recently announced new export regions across the globe. Representative Polis had advocated for Saunders' appointment to the Council in a December 3 letter, calling Saunders "a strong member of the local, Boulder business community" with a "wealth of experience in the business development, manufacturing, and export arenas."

The Manufacturing Council serves as the principal private sector advisory committee to the Secretary of Commerce on the U.S. manufacturing sector. The Council was established on April 7, 2004, as a result of a recommendation in the "Manufacturing in America: A Comprehensive Strategy to Address the Challenges to U.S. Manufacturers" report produced by the International Trade Administration and released in January 2004.
