KETK - Senator Cornyn Speaks to East Texans About Repealing Obamacare

Tuesday afternoon Senator John Cornyn visited Tyler to speak with small business owners about Obamacare. The deadline is quickly approaching at the end of this year, and the new healthcare bill is creating uncertainty for the future. So the Senator sat down at "The Diner" to hear concerns.

Senator Cornyn said, "What we need to do is empower people to make their own healthcare choices by having affordable alternatives for them and their families". Cornyn believes that a government regulated program is not the answer. So he has a plan that involves two main points, "Bringing down the cost through using market and choice, and making sure the doctor patient relationship is respected".

The Senator shared that business owners do need to prepare themselves for what lies ahead during the next 3 years of Obama's presidency. He said, "Unfortunately what they're (business owners) having to do is to make very hard decisions in terms of cutting down the size of their work force to come beneath the 50 employee cap".

Currently the city of Tyler has a booming economy and job growth is on the incline, but Obamacare could potentially have a long-lasting negative effect.

Tom Mullins, President of the Tyler Chamber of Commerce, said, "30% of our work force is tied to the medical sector. It could impact our economy at the macro level, we could see a lot of down-sizing".

Senator Corny is actively working to repeal Obamacare, and is meeting with various groups to acquire compelling stories to share with his constituents back in Washington D.C.
