Cassidy Supports Americans Keeping Their Health Insurance

Statement

Today, Congressman Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA) voted for the "Keep Your Health Plan Act," which allows Americans to keep their current health insurance. Dr. Cassidy introduced this bill with lead sponsor Congressman Fred Upton of Michigan. He also spoke in support of the bill on the floor of the House of Representatives, with the video available here and partial transcript available below:

"This is not power to the family or to the patient, this is Washington saying, "Thou shalt spend thy money in the way that we direct you to spend it'… We must give power to the patient! We must trust families! We should pass the Keep Your Health Plan Act. Allow families to make their own decisions!"

Additionally, Dr. Cassidy released the following statement on his vote for the Keep Your Health Plan Act:

"As far back as 2009, the administration and Senate Democrats knew that millions of Americans would lose their health insurance. Yet, the President and Senate Democrats continued their mantra that everyone could keep their health insurance if they wanted to. Unfortunately, while making that promise, Obamacare regulations were dismantling the private insurance market. Today, we passed the Keep Your Health Plan Act, to try and protect those Americans facing cancellation notices."
