Horsford Applauds Commissioner Kipper For Launching Investigation Into Misleading Insurance Letters

Today, Representative Steven Horsford (NV-4) commended Commissioner Scott Kipper of the Nevada Division of Insurance for launching an investigation into misleading letters sent to Nevada consumers by insurance companies.

"Last night, Commissioner Kipper and I had a productive conversation," said Horsford. "He assured me that the Nevada Division of Insurance is launching an investigation into misleading letters sent by insurance companies to thousands of Nevadans. I trust Commissioner Kipper and his staff will thoroughly review the letters and offer a full report on the situation. Nevadans deserve clear, complete, and transparent options when it comes to their health care choices, not misleading information."

On Tuesday, Horsford sent a letter to Commissioner Kipper urging him to investigate the matter.

Horsford specifically cited a letter sent by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Nevada to policyholders whose plans will no longer be offered after 2014. In the letter, the company did not list Nevada Health Link, the state's newly created insurance exchange under the Affordable Care Act, as an option for consumers to purchase health insurance. Many consumers may qualify for federal subsidies for health plans through the exchange, a fact only acknowledged in a brief footnote in the letter in question.
