Rep. Schneider Asks EPA Administrator for Nationwide Stormwater Runoff Rule

U.S. Congressman Brad Schneider (IL-10) joined 15 colleagues on a letter to Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Gina McCarthy in support of a nationwide rule on stormwater runoff. By standardizing national stormwater runoff policy and helping prevent the flow of pollution, this rule will help protect the Great Lakes and other waterways and ecosystems from chemicals and waste.

"Last spring's flooding in the Tenth District highlighted the need for the EPA to finally address stormwater runoff and the harm it's causing the Great Lakes and surrounding ecosystems," said Schneider. "The EPA has kicked the can down the road too long on this issue, and it's time for the Agency to issue guidance that will help investment in green infrastructure and environmental protections for our communities."

Schneider is a champion of Great Lakes protection and restoration efforts. In July, Schneider spoke out against proposed cuts to the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative. He also offered a measure that would safeguard the Great Lakes from oil and gas drilling.
