Letter to Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi - American Airlines and US Airways Merger

Congressman Alcee L. Hastings (D-FL) released the following statement on the recent announcement that the Department of Justice (DOJ), along with a number of state attorneys general, has reached a settlement with American Airlines and US Airways to withdraw its lawsuit preventing a proposed merger between the two airlines:

"I am pleased that the DOJ, as well as those states that supported its lawsuit, has decided to allow the proposed merger between American Airlines and US Airways to proceed. This merger represents a tremendous opportunity that will help foster greater market competition, provide employees of the combined airline with better pay and benefits, and ensure that consumers have more choices when they travel. American Airlines and US Airways currently support thousands of jobs in Florida and, on September 27, 2013, I sent a letter along with six of my colleagues from the Florida Congressional delegation to State Attorney General Pam Bondi urging her to withdraw her support from the DOJ's lawsuit. I welcome this long awaited decision, which will soon result in the addition of a new 21st century carrier that not only offers competitive services globally, but supports economic growth in our communities throughout the nation."

Please find attached a copy of the letter sent by Congressman Hastings, along with Representatives Debbie Wasserman Schultz (FL-23), Ted Deutch (FL-21), Frederica Wilson (FL-24), Lois Frankel (FL-22), Joe Garcia (FL-26), and Patrick Murphy (FL-18), to Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi.
