Cotton Statement on Resolution Condemning Iran's Persecution of Religious Minorities

Congressman Tom Cotton (R-Dardanelle) released the following statement after the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on the Middle East and North Africa mark-up of H.Res. 147, a resolution that condemns the Iranian regime for its persecution of religious minorities:

"American Pastor Saeed Abedini has been held in an Iranian prison since July 2012, unlawfully detained while carrying out Christian mission work, preaching his faith, and building an orphanage. Unfortunately, Pastor Abedini's wrongful imprisonment is not an isolated case. The egregious human-rights violations of the Iranian regime are beyond the pale of the civilized world. Secretary Kerry and President Obama must continue to pressure Iran to respect the natural rights of its citizens. The mullahs must know there are consequences for persecuting Christians and suppressing religious freedom."
