Congressman Tim Griffin (AR-02) issued the following statements after House passage of the HIV Organ Policy Equity (HOPE) Act (S. 330) and the Veterans' Compensation Cost-of-Living Adjustment Act (S. 893):
"I'm proud to support the advancement of medical research that will benefit those living with HIV and help save lives.
"Taking care of our veterans and their families is a top priority, and providing this cost-of-living increase is the right thing to do."
Rep. Griffin is a cosponsor of the House companion bills to S. 330 and S. 893: H.R. 698, H.R. 569 and H.R. 570.
S. 330 would enable federal research on organ donations from donors with HIV to recipients with HIV, establishing a pathway to eventual transplantation.
S. 893 would provide a cost-of-living increase for disabled veterans, dependents and surviving spouses. The increase would match the cost-of-living adjustment of 1.5 percent that will be provided to Social Security recipients and VA pension beneficiaries.
