Politics Influenced Obamacare Rollout

Press Release

Date: Nov. 13, 2013
Location: Washington, DC

Representative Cynthia Lummis (R-WY) joined her colleagues on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee to hold a hearing on the roll out of Obamacare. The panel of witnesses included administrators who were very acquainted with the developments leading up to the failed roll-out as well as others who were called in to help fix the issues after the fact. Out of 106,000 enrollments in Obamcare from the launch on Oct. 1 to Nov. 2, only about 27,000 came through the federal exchange and Healthcare.gov.

The crashing and glitch-ridden website, Healthcare.gov, still faces a long road to recovery and needs to reevaluate the security threats that remain very real. In addition, millions of Americans are forced to scramble to replace health care policies cancelled due to the Obamacare implementation. The website capacity and performance was not sufficiently taken into account before the launch.

"The disastrous technical and security problems that have become hallmarks of the Obamacare roll-out are only matched by the law's disastrous effects on the American people and their health plans," said Rep. Lummis. "Obamacare's launch was more about meeting a political deadline than it was about offering a service, which is why we now face technical disasters, and serious security concerns. The numbers speak for themselves and a mere approximate of 27,000 people have signed up for Obamacare through the federal exchange. I continue to seek answers for the millions of Americans who have lost their insurance because of Obamacare and I look to hold accountable those responsible for this "train-wreck."
