Securing our nation's borders is one of the federal government's top priority. In fact, providing for the common defense is a constitutional obligation. This task becomes exponentially more difficult for a government to defend its people and its resources if it cannot secure its porous borders.
During my time in Congress, I have advocated for numerous measures to secure our borders and fix our broken immigration system. For my efforts, I was awarded an "A" rating by one of the top anti-illegal immigration organizations, NumbersUSA. I will continue my efforts in this area and I hope to fix our confusing, unfair, and unenforced immigration system very soon.
I also believe our nation must have robust but well-organized homeland security efforts. I am pleased that Customs and Border Patrol has been expanded and improved its operations in recent years, but I have concerns with the size and scope of the Department of Homeland Security in general. Recent reports have revealed a lack of focus and muddled jurisdictions at the Department.
Homeland security is a top priority, and when people's lives are at stake, there is no room for error. As a member of the House Oversight and Government Reform Subcommittee on National Security, Homeland Defense, and Foreign Operations, I will continue to work to ensure our government is meeting its immigration and security obligations to the people of Arizona and United States citizens at-large.
