Rep. Schneider Statement on Obama Administration Seeking Delay in Further Iranian Sanctions

U.S. Congressman Brad Schneider (IL-10) released the following statement following recent reports that the Obama Administration is seeking to delay further actions on sanctions against Iran.

"I call on the Senate to immediately pass the Nuclear Iran Prevention Act that passed the House by a strong bipartisan vote in July. The Administration's actions to petition members of the Senate to delay further actions on sanctions against the Iranian regime is counter productive to progress that has been achieved in subverting the Iranian economy and putting significant downward pressure on the nuclear weapons program in Iran," Schneider said. "Last week, the Institute for Science and International Security released a new report that illustrates Iran will be able to produce significant quantities of weapons grade uranium in weeks, not months. This new reality demands the immediate implementation of additional sanctions on Iran, not a pause in the pressure."

Congressman Brad Schneider, a member of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, has actively called for increased economic sanctions to prevent a nuclear-capable Iran. In June, the House approved an amendment authored by Schneider to the National Defense Authorization Act that would analyze how sanctions are affecting Iran's ability to outsource its military capabilities. In July, the House overwhelming passed the Nuclear Iran Prevention Act, which included two Schneider-backed amendments and last month, Schneider led a letter signed by 77 of his colleagues to the Administration emphasizing the urgent need to stop Iran's efforts to develop nuclear weapons capabilities and imploring it to implement new sanctions on Iran.
