Email Update: You Can't Keep It After All

Statement

Date: Nov. 4, 2013

Dear Friend,

Last week, many of you wrote me to share your experiences with Obamacare. Dozens of you indicated that you have a personal story about its affect on you, your family, your friends, and your business. Unfortunately, even after the President promised, "if you like your plan, you can keep it," hundreds of thousands of people across Florida are being dropped from their health insurance plans. One woman shared with me that the insurance replacement being offered would be ten times higher than her current premium. You can also watch the recent report from CBS News, which highlighted the case of another woman from Winter Haven.

If you would like to share how Obamacare has affected you, please email me your thoughts and experience.

This week, I visited with citrus growers from Lake and Polk counties. Among the topics of our conversation was the importance of Congress working in a bipartisan fashion to approve a new farm bill that offers sound, long-term policies that allow producers to plan for the future, responsibly manage risks, and provide choice and affordability to consumers. Earlier this year, I supported the House-passed farm bill, which achieves these goals while saving taxpayer dollars and making federal agriculture policies more effective and efficient through the elimination of outdated programs and the reform of others.

I also had the opportunity to meet with the National Restaurant Association and receive an update from key representatives from our district. We discussed the importance of tax reform for businesses, and the economic impact that the restaurant industry provides in our district. Central Florida is a leader in the tourism and hospitality industry, and I am committed to advancing policies that will help spur regional economic growth and development.

Last week, the House overwhelmingly passed a water resource bill that cut more than it spent and will generate substantial economic benefit to Florida. On Tuesday, members of the manufacturing industry came in to my office to share how the bill can also yield direct economic impact for Central Florida. If you missed the video from last week about the water infrastructure jobs bill, you can watch it here.

Member of Congress

Constituent Corner:

A constituent from an assisted living facility contacted my office to see why his VA benefits had been suspended. We contacted the Pension Management Center (PMC) and discovered that the veteran's Eligibility Report had not been received. We were able to provide the constituent with the list of forms the VA needed to continue processing the claim. Although the constituent's health was deteriorating rapidly and the veteran was put on hospice care, we continued to stay in touch with the constituent and the VA until the claim had been processed and we received a copy of the award letter signifying the veteran's reinstated benefits.

Share Your View:

Several major news reports have detailed the shocking number of health insurance plans that are being cancelled due to Obamacare. This week, I cosponsored H.R. 3350, the Keep Your Health Care Act, to enforce President Obama's promise for the past three years that "if you like your health care plan, you can keep it."

Do you agree that everyone should be allowed to keep their health care plan if they are satisfied with it?

Legislative Update:

This week, the House unanimously passed legislation I cosponsored to maximize housing benefits for our most vulnerable veterans. By reforming how the Department of Housing and Urban Development provides housing assistance for disabled veterans, we can help prevent veteran homelessness. We owe our veterans, and especially our disabled veterans, a debt of gratitude for their service that cannot be repaid.
